If there was one person I would like to get to know more at my workplace it would be my boss, Deepak. He is a very understanding and kind boss, and he seems like he has had a very interesting life. I know he is not from the United States so it would be interesting to hear more about life outside the US. I am curious as how he got interested in working with LinkTV and where his interest came from. Moreover, I would like to know exactly what he does at LinkTV. I know he started out as an intern and moved up in the company, so I would like to know how he went about doing so. Similarly, I would like to know if he had any advice for someone looking to work in the non-profit, human rights industry. Overall, I think Deepak would be a very interesting person to get to know better and would offer me some valued advice.
After being at my internship for a few weeks, it is interesting to learn what separates a great documentary from the good ones. I have found that the great documentaries are the ones that provide the most honest, un-biased perspective of the issue at hand. Whether it is a documentary on the genocide which recently took place in Sri Lanka or the differences between evangelical christians and extreme muslims, the better documentary will always cover all angles of the conflict. I have learned that when working in the film industry, it is crucial to determine if a film covered all angles fairly and if not they should not be shown. Since I work at a world news station, I have learned that this trait is even more significant since often the public we are showing our films to have fewer resources to learn about such conflicts. I now look at films with a much more critical eye than before, to ensure that their content is the best quality of journalism.
I’m so excited to start my internship with LinkTV! Surabhi, the program coordinator from EUSA, matched me with LinkTV. The internship should be the perfect opportunity for me to enhance my journalism skills while learning about the current issues around the world.
I’ve been reading articles from National Geographic and Time to try and stay up to date on world issues. Similarly, LinkTV streams documentaries on human rights issues; I’ve been watching many of those lately. My favorite one so far is Megunica. Megunica follows acclaimed graffiti artist, Blu as he travels around South America creating his unique murals. It was really beautiful and interesting to see Blu’s work, which covers many buildings in countries throughout Latin America.
